Director's Notes
What a pleasure it is to make my second
trip across this stage as director of a great play. My first trip
was for a great tragedy, so that makes this trip with a Neil Simon
comedy, especially one of his best, the other side or the theatrical
coin for me. I have a fantastic cast of some of the best actors in
the RCCT, who completely fulfilled my vision for this play.
I suppose you're familiar with the play, or
movie, or the TV show, so I don't have to tell you the situation our
characters find themselves in. However, that is where the similarity
ends. Neil Simon decided many years after the original hit, to write
a female version, which takes place in the '80s, and not only gave
all the characters a total sex change, but threw in some very funny
lines for this marvelous cast to say, and believe me, these actors
should all win Tonys just for being able to keep straight faces
while delivering their lines. It's not easy, as you'll soon
find out.
I want to thank all of the many people
who've helped with this production, and thanks also to Karl W.
Heidemann for having started this great playhouse, with the largest
stage in Northeastern Michigan, that has become a place where we
thespians get to pretend we're other people. And for you, the
audiences who've graced this auditorium and given so freely of your
applause, the only form of payment for the hard work we do in
bringing laughter, music and dance to this wonderful stage, a ace to
come see us. |
